1st shoot

On the 15th of February, Sophie and myself went to shoot on Ilkley moor from 12 to 3pm. Unfortunately the whether and lighting were extremely poor, so we didn't come away with much usable footage (extreme conditions placed the equipment at risk sand made it extremely difficult for the actors to perform). We gathered a few POV shots from the protagonist's point of view as she wakes in a storm. We used the time we had to essentially perform a dress rehearsal of our film opening - giving us a better understanding of prop and character placement.

Storyboard

Here is a screenshot of my iPad outlining the software I used to design my share of the storyboard.

Below is our story board, we have done our best to predict how the film will pan out, however should good shots present themselves we will also incorporate them.

Shot types

Here are the shot types we will be using for the opening, we will use these to develop the storyboard.

The opening shot is a close-up shot looking down on a characters face in a storm

New camera at medium shot goes from looking down on her to looking up as she clumsily stands (as if dizzy)

Titles will grow from the undergrowth within shots; this will be digitally created.

The camera zooms out from a bird's-eye view shot, showing the character in by lying
still in the dirt. The camera stops moving and the character starts shuffling as if wakening.

A medium shot goes from looking down on the character to looking up as character clumsily stands (as if dizzy).

Weather starts to resolve as a handheld medium-long shot shows the character stumble/walk.

An extreme close-up shot shows the protagonists mucky face as she stumbles.

The camera is handheld and clumsy at the start of the following shot, however becomes more steady as the characters walk does.-

A medium-long shot follows the character walking.

From behind a rock an extreme long shot show the second character -Phex appear

A medium shot follows, showing the protagonist from behind in the background walking and the Phex zigzagging behind, this shot is a tracking shot.

An extreme close up shot shows the face of Abor.

A medium shot shows Abor enter the frame in an animal like manner

A close-up shot shows a face (of Zosil) erupts from a near stream, gasping for air.

A medium birds-eye view shot shows Zosil clamber out of the stream.

A medium shot following the characters shows Zosil walk alongside the protagonist.
The protagonist is centre and leading the other characters.
The camera cranes up to show the group of characters stood overlooking a valley.

The title fades into shot.

Production meeting

Sophie and myself have met together to discuss production so far, here are the notes from our discusion;

  • The costumes; with filming dates approaching, we should look into more costume facilities to complete the casts costumes, perhaps West Yorkshire Playhouse. Two of the costumes are underway.
  • To create an accurate vision of our production, we are planning to go up and film a short mock of the film on Ilkley Moor, on Thursday 9th February.
  • Still to do; create the idents for our film opening.
  • Still to do, complete the story board.

The use of media

Alike many successful companies we have utilised social media, to access our target audience. Here is a link to our Facebook page, on which we will update our audience on the production of the film opening.
